solstice love...

watercolors, gouache, oil pastel, colored pencil, tea bag & beeswax - 4" x 6"

i'm jumping forward to what i'm working on now in the book because it reflects the energy of these days for me...

watercolors, gouache, oil pastel, colored pencil, tea bag & beeswax - 4" x 6"

i painted on tea bags, glued them to the page, put beeswax on top of it all, and then dug into and painted on the wax...

the pages i did yesterday... thank you, kim, for inspiring me to work on tea bags!

i am sending you solstice love and wishes for an expansive day!!

XO

What kind of beeswax do you use and how do you melt it? -- applying melted or rubbed on?

  5. The wax effect is brilliant! Look at that figure running through the woods, curious and
    spirited all at once.

Okay I am fully convinced now that I need to find one of these old books and have fun in it!

  11. Lynne,
I always love when I see one of your creations on a branch. It so makes me smile.
Tea bags are wonderful and if you drink coffee the filters are good also. I just wash out the coffee and use them and sometimes I use the grounds and mix with my paint for texture..LOL ..

  18. in case it's helpful, here are my answers to jane and sharmon... xoxo

    jane...

so i'm painting on these with the same stuff - watercolors, gouache, colored pencils, and oil pastels. the tea bags are amazingly tough... i think my favorite thing is if i paint with watercolors (or gouache) on the tea bag while it's still folded up (side to side - in other words the bag is about an inch and a half wide by 5" long and empty), when i undo the back seam and open the bag all the way up, the watercolors have bled through to what was the back and is now the sides. this creates a very cool effect.

    sharmon...

the gouache right out of the tube, as well as the casein paint, sticks beautifully to the wax. and of course i've got all these oil pastels that love the wax (i'm pretty sure i heard the oil pastel say to the wax "my brother!!" ; ) it's really exciting for me that these water based mediums love wax so much, as long as i don't add any water...
