alrighty then

___________________________

the very talented jo at mystory has presented me with this award. thank you jo! you're always amazing (and surprising) me with your words, art, and photography.

i'm passing it on to all of you whose blogs inspire me every day, and to one blogger in particular, karen cole, at artsortments. i've loved gazing at karen's art and reading her beautifully written posts for months now. but what i'd love most for everyone to see are her recent beach sketches, done on black paper... brilliant, huh?

thank you karen and everyone for inspiration, laughs, and insights into life and art.

i was also tagged by cynjon noah at varietist muse to list 6 unspectacular quirks about myself.

here are the rules:

1. Link back to the person who tagged you
2. Mention the rules on your blog
3. Tell about 6 unspectacular quirks of yours
4. Tag 6 following bloggers by linking to them
5. Leave a comment on each of the tagged bloggers blogs letting them know they've been tagged.

hmmmmm....

1. like bridgette, i don't like bathroom fans or any kind of fan.
2. i just started cutting my own hair after 50+ years of going to a salon for a Good Haircut.
3. i'm an advocate of 'unschooling' and tried to talk our son out of going to public school.
4. i've never had a t.v., ever. (is this a quirk? i don't know... but it probably explains why i'm as quirky as i am.)
5. i get along well with hell raising teenage rule breakers. so well, in fact, that i was once asked to teach them.
6. one of the hell raising rule breakers who was my teacher, i mean student, used to say "alrighty then" with exquisite timing, which always made me smile. and still does...

i tag the following three people (yeah, i'm breakin' the rules) -- participate or not as you please!

* jeane at art it
* kate at art vein vessel
* kate at this disordered life

i'll leave you with lucinda williams' 'fruits of my labor'... lucinda's genius is a tribute to quirkiness, i'd say.

  1. Lynne,

I am touched and humbled by your thoughtful comments and award. It has certainly brightened my day, more than you can imagine. It is always a wonderful feeling to know that someone out there appreciates what you do. I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

  3. this is great, all of it. I love Lucinda W, never heard this one. I always loved "there's something about what happens when we talk..." but hey. I love that you don't watch tv. i am weak but growing into the idea. :)

  4. That was fun! I have learnt so much more about you. Firstly, I've been trying to work out what age group you would be in. Initially I thought 20's until you mentioned your grown up son. Then I thought hmmm maybe 38 or 36 at a push if you started your family very early. You have a bubbly young feeling about you. Must be because you perch in the creek to paint instead of lazing on the couch glued to a TV screen. I also love the idea that you don't have a TV.

  5. Lynne - I played - another new experience for me! and I agree with Robyn - you do have a very young feel about you! - in the moment experiences!

  6. hi mansuetude, i love 'there's something about what happens when we talk' too...

on the t.v. thing -- since i grew up without one, it wasn't hard to keep going in that vein. i already had my life filled up with non t.v. stuff, like reading and making things, so i just kept going. plus, there's so much of it that seems awfully silly to me, and since i can generate plenty of silly without any outside help, it really wasn't very tempting. ; )

lol, robyn! 36 or 38 at a push!!! we never know how we're coming across i guess! hmmmm, let's see... when i was 36 i was living off the grid, with no electricity and definitely no computer, and my life was pretty much filled with taking care of two young children. in so many ways my life is radically different now at 52 - soon to be 53.

jeane, you played so beautifully! thank you!

  7. Lynne, TV only arrived in South Africa when I was a young mother with children. It was such a novelty that everyone sat glued to the test pattern waiting for our 2 hrs a day. It took months to build up to more hours and years before there were programes around the clock. The novelty is finally wearing off and I probably watch about 10 hours a week.

  8. robyn, wow, that's something that t.v. came to south africa so much later than here. i had no idea... by the 60s everyone had them here -- my parents were real oddballs in not having one. their logic was that they wanted us to grow up 'being able to entertain ourselves'. well, their plan was successful.

i really love learning about life in other parts of the world. angie reed garner (sidebar) has just moved to abu dhabi -- i'm learning about life there. just amazing...
