ink, colored pencil and graphite in softcover pocket moleskine.  stamp carved and given to me by another crazy diamond...

a couple of weeks ago my sister sent me a photo of a small memorial plaque (on top of a fencepost, i think).   i slowly read the writing, and i *thought* it said "shrine on you crazy diamond".  whoa! the thought of someone telling another person to "shrine on'' made all of my cells emit a burst of joy light!!     then i reread it and saw that it said "shine on you crazy diamond".   hunh!   well, that was a little disappointing, but i decided that it really didn't matter because for a brief moment the message for me was 'shrine on'...

i'm going to make a few changes on my blog; try them out and see how they feel...  i've been blogging for five years, with the layout pretty much looking like it does now the entire time - mostly because one of my least favorite things to do is sit in front of the computer and fiddle with font sizes, colors and layouts.  bah!   but i'm feeling like i want/need to make some changes.  shake things up a bit.

i'm going to change the format (template?) so that when you come here it'll look like a mosaic, with the newest post in the top left corner - you just click on that image.  if you don't like that format, you can click on the tab that says 'classic' and the blog goes back to (more or less) looking like it does now.  ha!  this is in theory anyway!   in the mosaic format, if you hover the cursor on the right edge of the screen, the clickable stuff in the sidebar pops up.

i'm going to try more short posts with less talking, but i'll still pass on helpful info that comes my way.  also more variety - not just paintings, but other stuff i doodle/draw.   make it more representative of what i'm up to art-wise.

finally, i'm going to go back to replying to comments here on the blog instead of via e-mail, because more and more people don't have e-mail addys associated with their blogger account.

so, i'll give all of that a whirl.

ink, watercolors, and colored pencils in softcover pocket moleskine.  stamp carved by the same crazy diamond as above

because i once saw a sign in a window that (i thought) said ''meditation services''.  wow! my mind was reeling with the concept of meditation services for hire!!   then i turned around to read the sign again and saw that it said ''mediation services''.  ohhhhh.... well, that's nice too...

shrine/shine on you crazy diamonds...

: )

  6. I was going to also say, I have tried both ways of commenting and it IS much easier to just do it all on the blog. Of course lately, I've been terrible and haven't responded to any comments. Five years of blogging. Wow. Dedication. xo

    1. yeah... well so far replying on the blog is seeming *a lot* easier.

i know, 5 years... doesn't seem that long in some ways, but in others it seems like a long time. what i'm wanting to find out is if i can steer it in a direction that feels fresh instead of repetitious...

    2. Your blog always seems fresh and never repetitious...I enjoy each one (repetitious is a difficult word to spell)...Shine on you crazy diamond is a song near and dear to my heart and I will not be able to hear it without thinking of your shrine...GIGGLE

  11. I always wonder if the universe is trying to communicate when signs reveal a 'message' that only we seem to catch.....who can know how many people have seen that sign and seen just as it was written but here you are having caught a different message...magical is what I call it. I'm with you on the techi stuff, I keep meaning to do a few tweaks to my blog too but I hate messing with it...kind of going with the 'if it ain't broke don't fix it' mind set but on the other hand...a freshness always come with change....so you go girl!!!! Rock on!!!!

    1. hello, susie... : )

i *do* think they're messages meant just for our eyes!!

i know, for years i've gone with the 'if it ain't broke' plan. but it looks like it's time to abandon it...

  15. LOL! Lynne, I do this all the time - and then I spend a lot of time thinking "what if it had said what I read it to say....that could be really neat, wow..."
I drove down the street the other day and I thought I saw a sign that said "New Paintings Accepted!" Wow I was thinking and thinking, does that really mean that - should I inquire, but they probably wouldn't want any of my paintings well maybe...etc etc etc. When I drove back by coming the other way it was a dentist office and it said New Patients Accepted. Hahaha!

    1. olivia, this made me laugh so hard!! this is *exactly* the kind of thing i do! it's so funny, isn't it?!

i can see myself pondering whether or not to approach those people with my paintings. feeling happy that people are putting up signs saying that they're accepting new paintings.

  22. You are a burst of joy light!
I am glad to think you are over there, glowing on a hillside among great old energy trees. :)

I love when this happens too. Was reading Empire Falls the other night--the character pulled his car up in front of "the mouse he grew up in" but it was really only" the house he grew up in." Yet, the character was acting like a mouse, so it fit! :)

Thought a lot about that Bachelard tumblr quote on "guilt" too--so many ways to see it. Thanks for that.
Shrine on you! How many people are good enough to themselves to make their very own shrine tree to visit...

  23. dearest soul, just a quick visit to tell you i have nor forgotten you. just that i took a workshop in pasadena where i met our now mutual friend kathy dorfer ( what a find). i have been busy busy, a little drained from all that driving and excitement and just settling down to some quiet time. but ofcourse, in that solitude and quiet, first thing i do is visit your blog.
so much to share with you. will try posting on my blog later this week, thenclass with nina bagley was fabulous, more than anything because i got to spend a lot of time with her since i was her chauffer/chaperone/laconfidante. much love your way as always.

  24. Really enjoyed reading your post today. I often find that when I glance at a notice or shop sign, etc, my eyes deceive me and present a more interesting interpretation than the actual words, so I like your idea of turning those moments into paintings.

    ReplyDelete
  25. yes, jez, a more interesting message/interpretation for sure...

thank you for leaving your words... : )
