'the tree tender' ~ watercolors, gouache, oil pastels, casein paint and beeswax on old book page - approx. 4" x 6"

well, that was certainly a nice break! i've been reading and painting and walking and savoring these winter days, and now it's march! truly, it doesn't seem possible - nor does it seem possible that daylight savings time starts this weekend...

i'd like to give 'the tree tender' (she tends trees) away,

as well as a new pocket moleskine sketchbook, a caran d'ache 'luminance' buff titanium colored pencil (for faces, and also you might want to see what these 'luminance' pencils are like), and an 8B derwent drawing pencil. i've gotten a lot of new art supplies recently, so it feels very good to give some things away. if you'd like to have your name in the hat, all you have to do is say so in your comment; otherwise i'll assume you're just popping in to say hi...

watercolors in stillman and birn 'gamma' sketchbook - 4" x 6"

i'm almost finished with the stillman and birn journal that i started in january. i have loved this book! long story short is that it's a gem; great with watercolors - the paper can take a lot more water than i initially thought, and 4 pages from the end it's still laying open flat with no 'gutter' in the middle.

as you can see i'm on a lip thing. i decided that i needed to understand them better, so that's what i'm trying to do. otherwise i'm still drawing mostly faces...

i'll leave you with this video of a young robert rauschenberg.

not only do i resonate with his words, i don't think i could ever tire of listening to his voice...

please note: if you don't receive a response to your comment it's because i can't reach you via e-mail or by leaving a comment on your blog, but i've put your name in the hat. also thank you for your kind and supportive words... xoxo

  6. a double treat day, both you and the full crow moon appear today! I love the tree tender. He looks so wistful though, delicate and wistful. He is delicate and sensitive by nature and feels so much more at home amongst the trees than his fellow humans. In fact he thinks he was probably a tree in his former life.

He is saddened by the fact that his rather well-to-do family does not understand him and his love of trees. They find tree tending a wholly unsuitable occupation for a young man. This takes some of the joy out of his days. And yet he does what he must.

And of course I would love to be entered into the draw.

  28. hey friend...nice to see you and the tree tender...she looks like an acorn that has dropped and is now wondering if she will sprout into a tree not knowing that she's already a sapling and will bloom soon...and in 50 years she will produce her own acorn and her young will continue the journey she has started. she's beautiful...so in thought (and not wordless by any means) and concerned about how to strive and survive. the colors are wonderful (almost a little subdued) and the texture grand. I wish you'd put a little how you used the bee wax up for neo-folks like me. intrigued by that. i have to re-watch the video but when he was talking about the most difficult color, before he said it, i thought red. red is a difficult color - for me. one i hardly touch. the "film projector" sound also reminded me of a cat purring. so spring ahead love. xox thank you for my morning treat. ani

i'm feeling very inspired by the tree tender.
who am i kidding? i'm always inspired when i come here.
    i copy everything you do.
(in a good and flattering way)
i MEAN i don't copy it in a good way, i mean that i mean well.
    forget it.

  31. hello Lynne,

I have been wondering, in using your non-dominant hand for art and as often as you do.... is it no longer your non-dominant hand? I wonder if at some point if you want to continue with your N-D hand that you will have to switch to the other hand for it will be less familiar with creating art?

thanks for sharing this film. I enjoyed watching him talk as well, his expressions captured me.

such a sweet little heart in your hand and magical light.

    love your lips.....
I have never heard of the Luminance pencils... i looked them up, they are indeed pricy and you have me SO curious about how they feel and look on paper! I will have to try them or one, some day.

Such a wonderful give away! wahoo to the lucky winner, please include me. I love your tree tender... even the title is wonderful.

    lovely day to you~
